Welcome back, dear readers, to another round of Life Chronicles-Reality Unfiltered where we take life’s ups, downs, and all-arounds and serve them with a side of humor.
Today’s Reality Check: The Mundane and the Magical
Let’s dive into a day that started like any other – with my alarm blaring like it’s trying out for a heavy metal band. Snooze button? More like a negotiation tactic with my conscience. High advice again using an Amazon Echo for your alarm clock, telling the things to snooze or even stop the alarm is impossible! I would be better off and get more of a response talking to a brick wall. Eventually, I stumbled out of bed, looking less like a morning person and more like a caffeine-deprived zombie. Coffee here I come!
Morning Perks (or Lack Thereof)
First up, the daily ritual of making coffee. Spoiler: NOT! It was an epic fail. The coffee machine decided to play hard to get, leaving me with something that tasted suspiciously like disappointment. If anyone knows how to fix a machine possessed by the spirit of Mondays, hit me up. We cannot start a day without coffee or we are setting ourselves up for a disaster of a day so running late or not a coffee stop was a must! You cannot forget about the emotional support water bottle or the emotional support Dr.Pepper either.
The Commute: A Comedy of Errors
Next, the commute. Ah, the joys of traffic – the great equalizer. You could be a rocket scientist or a dog walker, but we’re all stuck in the same miserable stop in go on the two lane highway out of town. Today’s highlight? Watching a guy in the car behind me perform a dramatic one-man show with his steering wheel as a prop. I give him 5 stars for enthusiasm.
Work Woes and Wins
Arriving at work, it was the usual chaos. Meetings that could’ve been emails, emails that should’ve been ignored, and a to-do list that looked like it had been hit by a tornado. But hey, amidst the madness, there was a small victory – a meeting and the plan actually went as envisioned. Cue the victory dance (in my head, of course).
Lunch Break Follies
Lunchtime brought a much-needed break… or so I thought. Ever try soup and trying to focus with words meshing together on the screen? It’s an Olympic sport, I swear. Today’s attempt ended with cold soup and chicken noodle soup juice in between my space bar and the edge of the computer!
The Afternoon Slump
The post-lunch productivity dip is real, folks. It’s like my brain decided to take a siesta. The solution? A snack that didn’t resemble rabbit food. Pro tip: the Christmas version of Halloween candy pumpkins is scientifically proven to make emails and writing IEPs less painful. (Okay, maybe not scientifically, but it feels true.) The back solution and to have some community time with my students and just laugh, something we all enjoy stepping back to do and very much so needed to do!
Evening Escapades
Finally, the day wound down with some much-needed relaxation. On tonight’s menu? The complete opposite! A wholesale club run because we were out of pretty much every staple in our house. Luckily I was able to end the night by binge-watching a couple of episodes of a show everyone has not been talking about, good ol Reba. No spoilers here, but let’s just say, it was worth rewatching, they just do not make them like that anymore.
Reflection and Random Thoughts
In the end, it’s the little things that make life entertaining. The good, the bad, and the laugh-out-loud moments all blend together to create a day that’s uniquely yours. Sure, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, but even the storm clouds have their silver linings.
Stay Simple, Stay Real, Stay True, and don’t forget to laugh on!
