Today, we turn the spotlight on the paraprofessionals—those unsung heroes who play a crucial role in the educational journey of countless students. Paraprofessionals, or paras, are the backbone of many classrooms, providing support, encouragement, and expertise that help students thrive.

This begins with a heartfelt acknowledgment of the vital role that paraprofessionals play in schools. From assisting teachers with classroom management to providing one-on-one support for students with special needs, paras wear many hats. Their dedication often goes unnoticed, but today, we shine a light on their invaluable contributions. Paraprofessionals are the hero’s of education and the absolute hero of special education. Their impact does not have enough praise and words to properly recognize them.

As the school day progresses, it’s important to reflect on the profound impact that paraprofessionals have on student success. Paras without a double always know the most about any student they work with and want nothing but the world for each student no matter how challenging or complex they can be. The heart and soul of a quality para is pure goal. I know my job would be impossible without my para and I would not want to deal with the cards I have been dealt this year with her!

As the day winds down, expressing gratitude becomes the focus. Simple gestures like handwritten notes, small gifts, or even a verbal acknowledgment can go a long way in showing paraprofessionals how much they are valued. Schools can also organize appreciation events, such as luncheons or recognition ceremonies, to honor their hard work and dedication. I never can express enough appreciation for my para and one of my goals this year is to better give her the recognition she deserves.
